How does it handle SST and the service charge?
Makan Split reads the SST (service tax) and service charge already printed on your receipt, then divides each across people in proportion to their item totals. Someone who ordered RM8 of food carries far less than someone who ordered RM60 — instead of everyone splitting it evenly. We don’t guess a rate; we use exactly what’s on your bill.
Does it reduce the tax I pay?
No. The total SST and service charge on the bill stay exactly the same. Makan Split only works out who fairly owes which part of it — it splits the bill, it doesn’t shrink it.
Why not just split the tax evenly?
Because it’s unfair. An even split makes the person who ordered a cheap drink pay the same tax as the person who had the most expensive dish. Proportional splitting means your share matches your own order — that’s the whole point.
Does it work with Malay-language receipts?
Yes. It detects items, service charge and cukai / SST whether your receipt is in English or Bahasa Malaysia.
