Frequently asked questions

How does Makan Split work?

Snap a photo of the receipt — items are detected automatically (English and Bahasa Malaysia). Assign items to teammates, share a link, and each person pays you via DuitNow QR. Auto-reminders nudge anyone who hasn't paid on Day 2, 5, and 14. The whole flow takes about 60 seconds.

Does Makan Split support DuitNow QR?

Yes. After splitting, each teammate gets a personalised DuitNow link they can scan with any Malaysian bank app (Maybank, CIMB, Public Bank, RHB, Hong Leong, AmBank, and more). No bank transfers, no IBAN, no chasing.

How are SST and service charge handled?

Makan Split detects SST and service charge on your receipt automatically and splits them proportionally based on each person's items. You never need to do the maths yourself.

Do I need to download an app?

No. Makan Split runs in your browser — no App Store, no Play Store, no install. You can save it to your home screen (PWA) for one-tap access if you like, but it is not required.

How do payment reminders work?

For each teammate who has not paid yet, Makan Split sends a polite SMS reminder on Day 2, Day 5, and Day 14. You stay out of the awkward "hey bro you paid me yet?" loop. Reminders stop the moment they pay.

Is Makan Split free?

Free for Malaysian users — no subscription, no per-split fee, no credit card. We earn revenue through brand-sponsored rewards (ZUS, J.CO, Oriental Kopi), not by charging users for splitting bills.
